EM FORD IS A popular British beauty blogger, with 130,762 subscribers on YouTube and a whopping 320,000 followers on Instagram.
A sufferer of adult acne, three months ago she decided to start posting pictures of her makeup-free face online for the first time.
She said:
When my skin became problematic last year I found myself hiding away, feeling that how I looked was unacceptable for social media. It was then that I realised that I needed to question how and why I was feeling that way.
Though she received lots of messages of support, the negative comments were “shocking and disturbing”.
So Ford made a short video containing some of the 100,000 comments about her face she has received – both with a bare face, and with a full face of makeup.
Ford said she wanted to show that the ‘perfect’ image people present on social media isn’t always real, so we shouldn’t hold ourselves to those standards.
As a society, we’re so used to seeing false images of perfection and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that it can be hard to remember the most important thing – you ARE beautiful.
